《Changes》
On Thursday morning at a quarter past ten
Joseph Kaye noticed something
strange about the kettle.
星期四上午，
十点一刻，
小凯注意到，
茶壶变得不一样了。
Everything else in the kitchen
was in its familiar place, clean and tidy.
It even smelled the same as usual.
厨房里的其他东西
仍然干净，整齐地，
放在原来的地方。
连气味儿也跟平时一样。
The house was quiet, very quiet,
and Joseph’s room was just as he had left it.
And then he saw the slipper.
屋子里静悄悄的，
没有一点儿声响，
小凯的房间跟他离开时一样。
就在这时......
啊，
他看见了一只拖鞋！
That morning his father had
gone to fetch Joseph’s mother.
Before leaving, he’d said that
things were going to change.
一大早爸爸就出门了，
去接妈妈回来。
临走时他说：
“家里就要变得不一样了。”
Was this what he had meant?
爸爸指的是这个吗？
（是地毯变成了鳄鱼吗？）
Or this?
还是......
那个呢？
（还是沙发变成了猩猩？）
Joseph didn’t understand.
小凯搞不懂。
Perhaps things would be all right outside.
At first they seemed to be.
外面所有的东西，
都还是老样子吧？
至少看起来是这样的。
（足球孵出了鸟儿？）
Joseph didn’t know what to do.
Maybe if he went for a ride…
小凯不知道做什么好，
要不先骑自行车出去逛一逛......
…or looked over the wall?
或是翻过去瞧一瞧......
Was everything going to change?
每一样东西都在变的不一样吗？
Joseph went back to his room, closed the door,
and turned off the light.
小凯跑回家，
躲进自己的房间，
关上房门，
把灯也关掉。
When the door opened, light came in
and Joseph saw his father,
his mother and a baby.
“Hello, love,” said Mom…
当房门被打开的时候，
灯光照进来，
小凯看到——
爸爸，妈妈，
还有......
一个小宝宝。
“嗨，宝贝儿，”妈妈说。
“…this is your sister.”
“她是你的小妹妹。”
