小王子的英文版书(小王子 英文朗读)

小王子英文版20,每日读英文原版书给你听

He sputtered(语无伦次) a little, and seemed vexed(伤脑筋的). For what the king fundamentally(根本地) insisted(坚持) upon was that his authority(权威) should be respected(尊重). He tolerated(容许) no disobedience(违抗). He was an absolute(绝对) monarch(君主). But, because he was a very good man, he made his orders(命令) reasonable(合理的).

“If I ordered a general(将军),” he would say, by way of example(例子), “if I ordered a general to change himself into a sea bird(海鸟), and if the general did not obey(顺从) me, that would not be the fault(错误) of the general. It would be my fault.”

“May I sit down?” came now a timid(胆小的) inquiry(询问) from the little prince. “I order you to do so,” the king answered him, and majestically(庄重地) gathered(聚拢) in a fold(折叠) of his ermine(貂皮) mantle(披风). But the little prince was wondering... The planet(星球) was tiny(微小). Over what could this king really rule(管理)? “Sire(陛下),” he said to him, “I beg that you will excuse my asking you a question—”

“I order you to ask me a question,” the king hastened(急忙) to assure(保证) him. “Sire—over what do you rule?”“Over everything,” said the king, with magnificent(宏伟的) simplicity(简单). “Over everything?” The king made a gesture(手势), which took in his planet, the other planets, and all the stars.

“Over all that?” asked the little prince. “Over all that,” the king answered. For his rule was not only absolute: it was also universal(宇宙的). “And the stars obey you?”“Certainly they do,” the king said. “They obey instantly(瞬间地). I do not permit(允许) insubordination(反抗).”

Such power(权利) was a thing for the little prince to marvel(惊奇) at. If he had been master of such complete authority, he would have been able to watch the sunset(日落), not forty-four times in one day, but seventy-two, or even a hundred, or even two hundred times, without ever having to move his chair.

And because he felt a bit sad as he remembered his little planet which he had forsaken(被遗弃的), he plucked(鼓起) up his courage(勇气) to ask the king a favor(支持): “I should like to see a sunset... do me that kindness... Order the sun to set...”

“If I ordered a general to fly from one flower to another like a butterfly(蝴蝶), or to write a tragic(悲惨的) drama(戏剧), or to change himself into a sea bird, and if the general did not carry out(执行) the order that he had received, which one of us would be in the wrong?” the king demanded(询问). “The general, or myself?”

“You,” said the little prince firmly(坚定地). “Exactly. One must require from each one the duty which each one can perform,” the king went on.
