少年听雨歌楼上，

红烛昏罗帐。

壮年听雨客舟中，

江阔云低、

断雁叫西风。

While young I listened to the rain in the house of song

Where red candle flickered upon the silky valence.

In my prime, I listened to the rain in a passenger boat

Which floated on the vast river beneath the overcast sky

In the west wind cried a lost wild goose

而今听雨僧庐下，

鬓已星星也。

悲欢离合总无情，

一任阶前、

点滴到天明。

Now I listen to the rain under the eaves of a temple

My sideburns have turned grey as if dotted with silver stars.

So merciless are all the sorrows and joys, parting and reunions.

Let the raindrops fall on the door steps

Drop after drop, till dawn.
