In some countries, there has been an increase in the number of parents who educate their children at home instead of sending their children to school. Do you think it is a positive or a negative development?

In some countries and regions around the world, an increasing number of parents choose to teach their children at home rather than sending them to school. In my opinion, this is a positive development.

Firstly, this helps to reduce costs. In China, for instance, with rising educational costs increasing the burden on many Chinese families and even resulting in a negative effect on the improvement in their standard of living, parents who teach their children themselves need to spend less money on their children’s education. Secondly, studying at home can boost children’s efficiency. Students in the same traditional classroom are generally on different levels, so it is difficult for them to study at their own pace, especially for top students, whose learning is often made less efficient accordingly. By contrast, parents can prepare courses specially designed to meet their own children’s needs, which allows their children to learn more efficiently and make the best use of their time. Finally, the new way of education can contribute to a reduction in crime rates. As a result of an increase in child-targeted crime, such as assault, rape and murder, schools have become areas with high crime rates in numerous places, while parents can protect their children’s safety by instructing them at home.

However, some people argue that the phenomenon in question is a negative development because it may prevent children from developing a wide range of skills. For example, with fewer opportunities to communicate with their classmates, they may lack social skills, which may hamper their preparation for later life and their achievement in potential. Actually, such a problem can be addressed by parents. In other words, they can provide their children with more opportunities to participate in various activities, such as community activities, team sports and volunteer work, to gain more practical experience in interaction with others.

In conclusion, I believe that it is a positive development for more and more parents to educate their children at home.
