01 go to bat for someone

帮助他人、替他人打抱不平的意思。

这个短语后面可接 with someone or something。另外 get to 也可以用 reach 替代。

04 touch base (with someone)

指联络、碰面和联系的意思。

I had a great time at the party. I touched base with some old friends and made some new ones.

05 out in left field

古怪、诡异的意思，通常形容人或者是某个想法。

She is a lot of fun, but she’s also kind of out in left field.

她人是很有趣没错，但有时候很怪异。

06 out of left field

无预警、突然的意思。

The question came out of left field, and he failed to come up with an answer.

这问题来的太快，他无法立即回答。

这个用法也有「奇怪」的意思，跟 out in left field 不同的是，out of left field 通常用来形容一个事件来的太快、毫无预警，令人有奇怪的感觉。而前者则是用来强调人或想法的古怪。

07 make a hit (with someone)

给某人留下良好的第一印象，或是使某人一见锺情的意思。

The speech you gave really made a hit with the audience.

你的演说给观众留下了良好的印象。

08 play hardball

採取强硬手段的意思。

Mary’s father decided to play hardball since she has no sign of repentance.

玛丽毫无悔改的迹象，因此她爸爸决定採取强硬手段。
